Multiple Domains Yield a Bonus
For many engines, including Excite, HotBot, and AltaVista, you will find it easier to get high rankings on your site's home page than on internal pages.
Your home page is the page that is displayed when someone visits your Web site's root domain, e. g., www. yourcompany. com. The page they're actually seeing is:
http:// www. yourcompany. com/ index. htm
The index. htm page name is usually not displayed in the browser window. To take advantage of this effect, we suggest registering additional domain names on which you'll host your doorway pages. This way, you'll have an additional home page for each domain. It is important that you try to select and register domain names that include your targeted keywords. |

For instance, if you're targeting the keyword "white water
rafting" and you find that "whitewaterrafing. com" is taken,
you can register "4whitewaterrafting. com" or "2whitewaterrafting.
com." If you're creative, you'll always be able to find a
way to register a domain name with a keyword in it.
Remember that additional domain names cost $70 to register
and are your property for two years for that fee. Also, expect
that your hosting provider will not host an additional domain
name for free.
You'll be looking at paying at least $25 per domain name
per month, even if you're only putting up doorway pages. However,
this additional cost can be well worth it if it helps you
achieve high rankings.
